POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The applicant must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as a National Diploma in Science or another equivalent credential. Registration as a Certificated Natural Scientist is required with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). 6 years minimum of technical (scientific) experience after qualification.

DUTIES:

In charge of overseeing the creation and application of the seed analysis technique (International Seed Testing Association – ISTA), systems and processes (Quality Assurance System – QAS), and associated practises that are relevant to seed testing. Perform the final evaluation and, if necessary, grant approval for scientific-technical projects carried out at the Official Seed Testing Laboratory (OSTL).

Perform the technical scientific duties of a quality manager in order to comply with ISTA’s QAS. Set technical requirements, standards, and service levels in accordance with organisational goals. Maintain that the seed testing facility follows proper safety, health, and wellness procedures and excellent laboratory practices. Material accessibility. In accordance with the International Rules for Seed Testing’s stated methodology, track and assess technical efficacy. Report events and non-conformances.

Give technical scientific concerns pertaining to the activities of seed testing strategic leadership. Stakeholders should receive professional assistance and counsel regarding matters relating to seed testing. In order to administer the technological facility or OSTL, one must examine the actions carried out. Create connections, work together, and take part at the national, regional, and international levels.

Take the lead in presenting and exchanging technical information and knowledge. Report events and non-conformances. In charge of coordinating and creating databases, processes, and legal frameworks for seed testing. Coordinate the creation of technical procedures for collecting and processing seed testing data, such as the Registered Laboratory Database (RLDB), Surveys, and the Seed Analysis System (SAS).

Implement internal procedures, including registers, random checks and verification, signing of international certificates, and problem-solving, to manage the evaluation, monitoring, and dissemination of seed testing data. Give feedback on seed testing for the legislation governing seeds, namely the Plant Improvement Act (Act 53 of 1976). Create, build, and adapt suitable technical processes to produce data and knowledge in the form of a specialised reporting system.

Create, assess, and compile reports on proposals. Report events and non-conformances. basic technical development and research. Continuous professional growth to stay abreast of new techniques and technologies for seed testing. initiate, direct, and organise basic research pertaining to seed testing and offer technical assistance. Ensure the creation and sharing of knowledge. Examine technical publications, such as documents, reports, and other materials. Talk with the appropriate organisation, such as ISTA, about technical or scientific issues relating to seed testing.
