REQUIREMENTS:

A Grade 12 certificate, a degree, or a national diploma (NQF Level 6) in agriculture, rural development, social statistics, or geographic information systems (GIS) are requirements for applicants. a minimum of two years of relevant expertise in the fields of agriculture, rural development, food security, and socioeconomic development, as well as knowledge and experience with research methodologies and instruments.

drafting and revising reports previously. Having experience with the ArcGIS software as well as relevant computer training in analytical programmes like SPSS and GIS.

understanding of programmes and policies for food security. understanding of departmental regulations and rules and public service. knowledge of methodology, technologies, and information systems for vulnerability assessments and food security. experience participating on global platforms that address concerns of food security. DUTIES:

Conduct assessments of food insecurity and vulnerability, as well as measurement and monitoring of the nation’s indicators of food and nutrition security. Determine and regularly assess the indicators that should be used to track the Republic of South Africa’s food security and vulnerability. Participate in the planning, development, and monitoring of indicators for food and nutrition security, as well as vulnerability assessment.

Find and communicate with organisations that are involved in assessing vulnerability and food insecurity for the purpose of doing joint research. Maintain communication with the appropriate parties to ensure that the methodology and indicators for assessing food insecurity and vulnerability are consistent. Give technical support for the creation, upkeep, and support of the early warning information systems for food security and vulnerability.

Support institutional frameworks for the creation, upkeep, and updating of information systems on food security. Gather data on the main dangers and shocks that could make people’s vulnerability and food security worse. At the local and provincial levels, assist in the decentralisation of early warning systems. Give technical assistance in the mapping of geographic data on habitations, susceptibility, classifications of food security phases, etc.

Analyse food security and vulnerability depending on livelihoods and keep it updated. In order to make well-informed policy decisions and programme designs for food and nutrition security, the South African Vulnerability Assessment Committee (SAVAC) should coordinate its daily technical efforts.

For continuous vulnerability assessment activities relating to food security, conduct primary data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Create and distribute the recurring status reports on food security. Support actions at the provincial and municipal levels to decentralise the evaluation of vulnerability and food security.
