JOB LOCATION: Gauteng (Pretoria)

REQUIREMENTS:

A Grade 12 certificate and a BSc Agric in Plant Pathology, Nematology, 1Entomology, Crop Protection, Horticulture, or a closely related field of study (related Honours Degree) are prerequisites for applicants. mandatory registration as a professional natural scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) (shortlisted applicants are required to present documentation of their professional registration on the day of the interview process). 3 years or more of experience working in a scientific environment related to agriculture or crop security.

rules outlined in the World Trade Organisation Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and the International Plant Protection Convention. Laws relating to plant health and related phytosanitary rules. legislative and statutory actions in the area of applicability.
Structures of the relevant industries (customers). National and international phytosanitary regulations and standards that are applicable. scientific process. application of the proper software. organisational structures and administrative procedures. computer proficiency. methods for administration and human resource management. principles from “Batho Pele”. understanding of legal requirements.

DUTIES:

To maintain and enhance a successful plant health regulatory system (Import, National, and Export Control), develop and execute methodologies, policies, systems, and procedures. To design plant health policies and legislation that adhere to national and international standards, identify, analyse, evaluate, and consolidate scientific and technical data.

Determine, analyse, assess, and combine all technical and/or scientific SOPs within a certain division in line with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures and other scientific data. to locate policy and legal loopholes and suggest relevant, scientifically-based adjustments (based on monitoring and pest risk assessment). Create and maintain efficient scientific channels for communicating laws, policies, standards, and other pertinent information.

To make sure that pest management complies with plant health measures and international standards and to analyse present operating systems, monitor and assess the efficacy of the execution of phytosanitary measures and/or conduct policy audits. Educate the scientific community on phytosanitary procedures. Prepare scientific oral or poster presentations. to carry out regulatory and scientific analysis. Examine and assess any further ideas for phytosanitary measures as well as scientific data.

Provide the pertinent stakeholders with scientific, technical, and/or legal guidance by interpreting scientific data (phytosanitary measures). Participate in numerous scientific forums on behalf of the Directorate and Division. investigation and development. To make scientific proposals or recommendations on the current phytosanitary measures, do a scientific literature search that includes other scientific measures from other nations. To ensure the effectiveness of the phytosanitary measures, a draught audit report is being prepared. development of human capital. Junior officials in the division should receive good mentoring and training. Phytosanitary measures training manual developed.
