REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate must hold a Grade 12 diploma as well as a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science with a concentration in Plant Production, Agronomy, or Horticulture. 3 years minimum of experience in junior management.

DUTIES:

Organise the creation and implementation of strategies, plans, and initiatives to advance and support sustainable plant production. Determine the industry’s main obstacles to plant output. Create strategic outputs in accordance with the department’s organisational plans, priority initiatives, and industry needs. Create policies to handle the sector’s issues. oversee the creation and application of strategies, programmes, schemes, and standards for the production of plants.

Organise the development of standards, operating practices, and quality control for the strategies, programmes, and schemes that are created. Keep an eye on how well policies and programmes are being implemented and monitored. Provide strategic leadership for plant production at the federal, provincial, and local levels of government. Control the creation of informational content.
Make a study of the information demands of the various kinds of farmers.

Report on any modifications to recent and emerging information that may have an impact on the plant production industry. Promote and organise the creation of production guidelines, brochures, posters, and articles related to the cultivation of decorative crops. Analyse the informational content that has been generated for quality and relevancy. Encourage relevant stakeholders and clients to access and share developed information content. Organise and lead information-sharing and awareness-raising sessions for the industry.

Upkeep a database containing data on plant production. Control the provision of technical assistance and consulting services to the appropriate stakeholders. Give technical guidance on growing cereals, fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, native crops, and industrial crops. Provide technical assistance to important parties, including farmers, commodity organisations, departmental programmes, and provincial departments of agriculture (PDAs).

Create and strengthen collaborations with key stakeholders for the execution of policies, plans, and programmes for plant production. Control the sub-directorate’s physical, human, and financial resources. By keeping an eye on spending and reporting it, the budget will be used effectively. Keep an eye on how the equipment is being used and make sure it is being reported properly. Assessing and keeping track of employee performance and evaluations. Ensure the staff’s development and capacity. instil discipline.
