VACANCY REQUIREMENTS :
senior certificate, or anything like that. MBCHB or an equivalent degree in addition to a Registered HPCSA certification as an Internal Medicine Specialist (Specialist Physician). If not trained in South Africa, a certificate in cardiology (SA) or an equivalent qualification. Current registration as a cardiologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Five (5) years of specialist physician experience after registration.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Currently employed and situated at Greys Hospital. Clinical Responsibilities: Participation in Tertiary Cardiology Services (both In-patient and Out-patient) in the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Area, including Outreach Programmes and the development of Cardiology services in Area 2. Clinical responsibility in the fields of cardiology and general specialist internal medicine, as well as participation outside of normal business hours (based on departmental operational needs).
Execution of clinical operations in the cardiac catheterization lab, such as intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation, intra-coronary angiography, stent implantation, pacemaker implantation, and additional procedures that may be developed. performance of non-invasive cardiology tests, such as tilt testing, Doppler echocardiography, and stress ECGs.
Presentation of cases that have been sufficiently prepared for surgery at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital’s Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Management Responsibilities: In the Tertiary Drainage Area of Greys Hospital, specialist cardiology services are being developed and supported. supervision and administration of the clinical and support staff in the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiology Unit. Control and management of the Cardiology Unit’s facilities, tools, and supplies.
liaison with institutional management at hospitals in the tertiary drainage area, uMgungundlovu District, and PMB Metro. liaison with the heads of the cardiology departments at the University of KwaZulu Natal and the clinical head departments of internal medicine in Pietermaritzburg. taking part in and supporting clinical and administrative governance efforts in the PMB Departments of Medicine and Cardiology.
Responsibilities for research and training. Under the direction of the Department of Cardiology at the University of KwaZulu Natal, assistance with staff training, including specialised cardiology training, is provided in the PMB Metropolitan region. participation in and support of the internal medicine and cardiology undergraduate and graduate medical training programmes at PMB.
