Warehouse Assistant Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of warehouse and inventory-related activities, including:

  • Moving inventory, materials and other warehouse items between designated facilities or storage areas.
  • Processing inventory and preparing items for delivery or distribution.
  • Sorting, organising and storing inventory in the correct locations.
  • Ensuring that warehouse items are properly labelled and packaged before dispatch.
  • Packaging items carefully to prevent damage during handling, transportation or storage.
  • Reporting damaged, missing or incorrectly recorded inventory to the relevant supervisor.
  • Stacking and organising large bulk items safely and efficiently.
  • Maintaining accurate warehouse logs, records and documentation relating to inventory processing.
  • Updating inventory records when goods are received, moved, issued or dispatched.
  • Assisting with inventory control activities and identifying discrepancies.
  • Performing daily cycle counts to ensure that physical stock corresponds with system records.
  • Working together with the Inventory Clerk to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintaining high quality standards when handling warehouse stock and materials.
  • Conducting routine warehouse cleaning and housekeeping activities.
  • Keeping work areas organised, clean and free from unnecessary hazards.
  • Handling delicate, sensitive and valuable products with the appropriate level of care.
  • Operating relevant warehouse tools, equipment and accessories in accordance with established procedures.
  • Following company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when performing warehouse activities.
  • Ensuring that warehouse processes comply with applicable rules, regulations and quality standards.
  • Supporting warehouse inventory controls and maintaining accurate documentation for audit purposes.
  • Assisting with the safe and efficient movement of stock within the warehouse.
  • Ensuring that products are stored in their appropriate locations and can be easily identified and retrieved.
  • Following quality service standards when dealing with internal departments and other stakeholders.
  • Performing additional warehouse-related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification – Essential.
  • 1–2 years of administration experience in a mid-size organisation – Essential.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Willingness and ability to work 24-hour shifts.
  • Knowledge of warehouse standards and procedures.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage several responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

The following qualifications or experience will be advantageous:

  • Warehouse Training certification.
  • Dangerous Goods certification.
  • Aircraft Spares Packing certification.
  • Experience working with an ERP system.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, inventory, logistics or aviation-related environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and stock control processes.

Candidates who have additional warehouse-related training or experience may have an advantage, particularly where this knowledge supports safe handling, packing, storage and inventory control.
