For our Pretoria Region, Dis-Chem Pharmacies needs a reliable Post Basic Qualify Pharmacist Assistant. The provision of pharmaceutical care will be covered in your portfolio by you assuming accountability for the patient’s medication-related needs and meeting them.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential

  • Grade 12 Mathematics (HG), Life Science and or Physical Science obtain at least an average of 50%. Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification

Pharmacy Council

A pharmacist’s assistant who is registered in the post-basic category of pharmacist’s assistant may carry out the following tasks or work in a pharmacy under the direct supervision of a pharmacist:

  • the selling of drugs or substances classified as Schedule 1 and Schedule 2.
    help with the production, handling, or compounding of a scheduled substance or non-sterile medication in accordance with a formula and SOPs that have been authorized by the supervising pharmacist.
    help in the production of a scheduled substance or non-sterile medication using a formula and SOPs that have been authorized by the accountable pharmacist.
  • the allocation and management of the inventory of drugs or other scheduled substances, ranging from Schedule 1 to Schedule 6.
  • the ordering of medications and schedule materials up to and including Schedule 6 in accordance with a prescription from a person permitted by the Medicines Act to procure or acquire said medications or schedule materials.
  • the process of reading and preparing a prescription, choosing, handling, or compounding the medication, labelling the medication, and supplying it in the proper container once a pharmacist has interpreted and assessed the prescription.
    the distribution of information to people in order to enhance health, as well as advice on how to properly use any medications that are offered.

Dispensing of Medication under direct personal supervision of Pharmacist:

  • Interpret scripts accurately, behave responsibly and professionally, and abide by the law in compliance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council’s guidelines.
  • Accurately record script specifics and confirm patient information on the database.
  • Make sure that medications are picked, packed, labelled, and checked accurately. You should also be aware of common dosages and significant drug interactions.
  • Give patients precise instructions on how to take the medications that have been prescribed.
  • Observe any modifications to medical assistance policies and procedures regarding eligibility, dispensing, and claims processing.
  • Make sure a pharmacist verifies the accuracy of every prescription filed and signs off on it.

Customer Service:

  • Help and counsel patients at the front desk, self-medication counter, and dispensary.
  • Remind patients about follow-up visits and script tracking reports as asked by the dispensary manager.
  • Inform patients of any medical assistance charges.
  • People should be informed in order to encourage good health.
  • Keep your end of any agreements you have with clients.

Admin:

  • Complete all the papers required in order to submit medical aid claims accurately.
  • Fix mistakes on scripts that medical assistance refused.
  • Verify the authorization of cancer, HIV/AIDS, and chronic medications.
  • Keep the system’s client profiles up to date.
    In order to merge profiles centrally, UCS should be informed of the local profile merging.
  • Any messages on the customer profile should be noted, and appropriate action should be taken.

Stock Control:

  • Report on low – / out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Facilitate Bi-annual stock takes. Exercise stock, cash and asset control.
